Our Story
Spruce Structural Engineering has been over a decade in the making. From a young age, founder Ethan knew he wanted to start his own structural engineering firm—an ambition sparked by building alongside his grandpa.
He began pursuing this vision early, gaining hands-on construction experience in high school and college while working for a local residential contractor. During this time, he contributed to a wide range of residential projects, including renovations, additions, and accessory dwelling units (ADUs).
Midway through his bachelor's degree in architectural engineering at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Ethan began working for a commercial contractor specializing in mission-critical infrastructure. In roles such as superintendent, field engineer, and BIM coordinator, he gained invaluable insight into large-scale commercial construction.
While earning his master's degree in architectural engineering with an emphasis in structural engineering, Ethan joined a structural engineering firm, further developing his technical expertise in commercial retrofits, light commercial projects, and large-scale mission-critical facilities.
Since then, he has engineered a wide array of residential projects—from renovations and custom homes to ADUs and beyond.
